EVC: Instrumentation and Process Control Projects

  • Was member of a team designing portable test equipment for a pharmaceutical equipment manufacturer. Responsibilities included building a series of prototypes, component selection and supervising the integration of the electronic, pneumatic and mechanical subsystems. The entire device was simulated with a 3-D CAD model. A few years later I was brought back to be part of the team that was designing the next generation of the instrument.
  • Designed an ultrasonic distance-measuring device. Worked with the client to produce several generations of prototypes, from proof-of-concept through production ready design. Providing ongoing production support.
  • Built a computer controlled production test station for a family of advanced industrial process controllers. Re-designed and modified the test station when the product specifications changed.
  • Performed troubleshooting and re-design of a multi-layer pre-production circuit board for a data logger. Was part of the team that wrote the firmware & software to test and control the device.
  • Re-wrote legacy control software for a family of machine tools, in order to upgrade the operating system from Windows 3.1 to Windows 7.
  • Was part of a team that wrote and/or modified firmware and software for several pieces of medical R&D laboratory instrumentation.
  • Designed and built the mechanical portion of several prototypes of an aerospace crack detector, including a portable demonstration station and a hand-held demo unit.
  • Designed self-test hardware and software for a complex production test station for a manufacturer of process control equipment.
  • Wrote PLC programs for production equipment in a variety of industries, including one application for machines that cut/clean red & green peppers that are included in pre-packs for a pizza retail chain.
  • Designed and built hardware and controls for several different assembly and filling machines for a manufacturer of medical instrument consumables.
  • Other industries.
